Back in the early part of the 1990\’s a film called \’The Medicine Man\’ was released and the story revolved around a doctor working in South America who discovers the cure for cancer, only to lose it in a local disaster. Think about that for a moment. Research over the years has helped our understanding of cancer but not to the point where we are able to foretell exactly when it will happen.

In those tragic cases where a full mastectomy is required to treat breast cancer, reconstruction is a welcome option. With modern techniques and materials it is possible to restore appearance to a near invisible state. Carried out by specialized plastic surgeons, restoration is now commonplace.

Have you noticed that every October there are pink ribbons everywhere you go? That\’s because, unless you have been on another planet, October has been designated breast cancer awareness month. You would be surprised just how companies that promise to donate money to this cause. But hold on, before you rush off to get your pink colored object, perhaps you should do some checking to find out just how much of this money that is donated is actually used for research and used to give the people information on breast cancer.

Metastatic breast cancer is the most advanced stage of breast cancer. Even after treatment, some cancer cells may not die and continue multiplying. These cells may spread to other parts of the body through blood or lymphatic vessels and start the development of cancer in those areas. This stage of the cancer is called metastatic breast cancer.
